On April 7 at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, NU AVE ART proudly presented the U.S. premiere of Smetana Reborn with Czech pianist Matyáš Novák.
For the first time in nearly a century, Jindřich Kàan from Albest’s complete solo piano transcription of Bedřich Smetana’s Má vlast (My Country) was performed in its entirety — a monumental achievement. Matyáš Novák brought this extraordinary work to life after more than a year of deep study, refinement, and dedication, capturing the richness and depth of the original orchestral masterpiece on a single instrument.
The evening was not only a concert, but a rare artistic moment — reconnecting audiences with Czech musical heritage through a virtuosic and deeply expressive interpretation.
“It was the highlight of my tour with this work across international concert stages. Performing a piece so deeply connected to our nation was an incredibly powerful and moving experience.
The concert was attended by several prominent figures from New York’s cultural scene, representatives of the Juilliard School of Music, and many members of the Czech community living in the United States. Some even traveled from the West Coast to be there. For the impeccable organization and all the care, I would like to thank Jana Křupková and her Czech-American concert agency, NU AVE ART.
The final standing ovation is something I will carry in my heart for the rest of my life.” — said Matyáš Novák
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for this special occasion, and to our partners and supporters.
